Jayson Tatum, the standout player for the Celtics, sprained his left ankle during Tuesday’s loss to the Warriors,

forcing him to miss Wednesday night’s game against the Kings.

While describing Tatum’s ankle as “sore” and “swollen,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla stated that

Tatum is dealing with the ailment on a day-to-day basis and did not provide an estimated return date.

The Cs take on the Clippers on Saturday in their next game.

He enjoys playing a lot. Before the game in Sacramento, Mazzulla told reporters, “I’m sure he would do anything to

play.” However, it was evidently bloated and painful. Throughout the game,

you could tell it limited him. Though it’s a daily issue, he did a fantastic job persevering through it.

We’ll see how it goes.

Tatum was hurt when he stepped on Golden State’s Brandin Podziemski’s foot during the

first quarter of Tuesday’s game. At the beginning of the second quarter,

he staggered off the floor and headed straight to the locker room.

He finished with a season-low 15 points on 5-for-17 shooting, though, making it evident that he was not himself for the remainder of the game.

“Not to make any excuses, but when you sprain your ankle it kind of swells up and it’s just stiff,” Tatum said on

Tuesday. “So it’s tough to … it just makes it a little tougher to move.

But I still was out there, so I feel like if you go out there and play, you can’t make any excuses.”

Wednesday marked the first game Tatum has missed this season after playing in the Celtics’ first 26 games. Sam Hauser got the start in Tatum’s place.
