The Boston Celtics’ impressive start against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night was cut short by an injury to

Jayson Tatum. Early in the first quarter, the top player for the Boston Celtics stepped

on Brandin Podziemski’s foot and twisted his left ankle. He had to go back to the locker room at Chase Center.

No immediate updates were available on Tatum’s status. Late in the first quarter, however,

he returned to the bench and Boston announced that he was probable to return.

In a game, Tatum is averaging 27.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and a career-high 58.5% two-point shooting

percentage. Even though he’s trailing elite players like Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic in the MVP race,

Tatum has a great argument this season to be voted to the First Team All-NBA,

a title he also won in 2022–2023 and 2021–2022.

The Celtics have been arguably the best team in the NBA so far, with a 20-5 record entering Tuesday’s action.

Their +9.0 net rating ranks second behind the rival Philadelphia 76ers’, per NBA.com/stats.

Boston and Philadelphia are the only teams in the league to be top-six in both offensive and defensive rating.

After disastrous seasons that ended with their showdown in the 2022 NBA Finals,

the Celtics and Warriors both made significant offseason changes. In June, Boston traded Marcus Smart to Kristaps

Porzingis, and three months later, they shocked the NBA community by acquiring Jrue Holiday.

In the meantime, Golden State traded for Chris Paul and let go of Jordan Poole,

restocking their bench with both seasoned veterans and first-year players.

Due to his calf injury, Porzingis will not be playing on Tuesday; but, Boston has reaped the rewards of their acquisition. With the Celtics, Holiday has also had his usual influence.

But the Warriors’ actions haven’t yielded the same results; Steve Kerr recently had to modify

his rotation due to an unpredictable start to the 82-game grind that was exemplified by.
