The defender left the Catalan team on deadline day in the summer to sign a temporary contract with Villa,

but he has had difficulty getting into the starting lineup this season.

His lone club outings occurred in the Europa Conference League; he was notably absent from the starting lineup for the decisive group matchup with Zrinjski Mostar.

This season, Lenglet has not been utilized as a substitute in any Premier League game,

and the lack of playing time has raised concerns about his short-term future. The 28-year-old is

“almost certain” to rejoin his parent club in January, six months ahead of schedule,

according to a report that surfaced earlier this week.

The defender is reportedly interested in joining AC Milan, a major Italian team, during the January transfer window.

However, it appears that Villa might get in the way of them now.

Villa is “unwilling” to renounce their loan agreement with the Spanish powerhouses,

but Barcelona is open to sending Lenglet to Milan on loan with a buyout option,

according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Football Italia.

Tyrone Mings had a catastrophic knee injury that is expected to keep him out for the bulk of the season,

prompting the center defender to join the team. Lenglet is the backup from the bench,

and Pau Torres has replaced Mings with Ezri Konsa in the center of defense.

Having as much depth as possible in the second part of the season will be important to Unai Emery.

The team will need to balance the games that come with a deep run in the

Europa Conference League with a run at the top four.
