After collecting his first trophy as Ibrox manager, Philippe Clement praised his Rangers team for two sprint finishes and urged them to

maintain their hunger for the Scottish Premiership marathon.

James Tavernier’s game-winning goal against Aberdeen at Hampden helped the Belgian secure

the Viaplay Cup for the trophy cabinet just a few months after taking over as Light Blues manager.

For the first time in twelve years, Rangers had won the cup, and Clement thoroughly enjoyed the exuberant

celebrations with his staff, players, and supporters at full time. This came after the

team earned a position in the Europa League final sixteen.

Even after Celtic lost the championship game the previous day, Clement stated, “The next few weeks

and months are about confirming we are a growing team and growing club,”

refusing to give in to talk of league glory. We don’t discuss the title or anything else. It’s a marathon, that.

We have excelled in two sprints this season—the Europa League and this cup final,

which was a winner-take-all affair—but winning the rest of the way will require a marathon to crown a champion.

It’s just another sport, so our only goals should be to outshine the opposition and maximize our own points.

Success comes from maintaining our drive, ambition, hard effort, and team and club growth. Everyday struggles

“This is finished and now in the bank. The team has also demonstrated that it is capable of writing history.

For example, they won on Thursday, but they are already two days later,

which is remarkable because occasionally teams lose focus after experiencing a thrilling moment

and find it difficult to maintain the same level of focus, so it’s crucial to keep winning.

I accept the pressure because that is who I am, of course. No player, supporter, or board member is more

competitive than I am when it comes to winning. That’s who I am. That has always been the case.

That kind of setting makes me feel good because I have high standards for myself, the staff,

and the athletes. Furthermore, I am aware that it leads to success in the long run,

as we have witnessed at a number of clubs. Given our current level of quality and developing mindset,

I am confident that we can accomplish great things this season.
