Sean Dyche names the ‘fantastic’ Everton player who he loves working with

Abdoulaye Doucoure, according to Sean Dyche, is the perfect match for the way Everton plays.

Before Frank Lampard assumed leadership, the 30-year-old was a consistent midfield player for Everton after joining the team in 2020.

The former manager didn’t seem to be much of a fan of Abdoulaye Doucoure last season, starting the two first games before he was dropped to the bench.

Doucoure looked set to leave the club following the expiry of his contract in the summer, but the arrival of Sean Dyche offered him the chance to revive his career at Goodison Park.

The midfielder has netted eleven goals since Dyche was appointed, including the only goal on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign to keep them in the Premier League.

He has become a key player under Dyche, and the 52-year-old has made his feelings towards Doucoure very clear.

Speaking on his tactical awareness to the Liverpool Echo, Dyche said: “I tried to come here with a front foot mentality and get the team to play on the front foot with that energy and commitment to press and break the game higher up the pitch… He is very good at that.

I believe it comes naturally to him as well. Not only does he have energy, but he also possesses awareness, tactical acumen, and an understanding of the passing lanes and lines he must push to prevent the opposition from passing. Jack Harrison is also an expert at it.

Some players adapt to it very naturally, some players have to learn it. I think Doucs has just enjoyed that. I think he is willing to do all of the work he does, and his commitment to the cause has been fantastic and, of his course, his goals. His quality to open up the game in different ways. He has been a shining light since I have been here and I have enjoyed everything he is doing and I think he is enjoying it as well.”

Abdoulaye Doucoure has been a key component of Everton’s recent comeback and has had a fantastic 2023.

The 30-year-old’s adaptability has been outstanding around the field as he has the second-most passes blocked (13), the most successful dribbles (14), the most shoots (28), and the most crucial passes (22).
