Aston Villa stars in disagreement with Unai Emery as they push for Champions League chance

Only two points behind league leaders Liverpool in third place in the Premier League,

Unai Emery’s team is now targeting a top four finish.

The manager of Villa has been eager to downplay any notion that

his team would end up gatecrashing the top four at the end of the current campaign.

He’s been questioned about it a lot,

particularly after Villa Park’s 15-game winning streak.

However, he declines to put his team under needless pressure, stating,

“We are contenders, but there are also seven others.”

But it seems that some of his first-team players aren’t buying into

the Spanish manager’s desire to downplay the circumstances.

Emery’s devotion to detail, according to right-back Matty Cash,

makes him a unique managerial talent.

And while it’s still a long way off, he acknowledged that it’s something to strive towards.

“As a group, we’ve learned a lot from the manager,” he stated.

We have a lot of long meetings, but he pays amazing attention to detail, and it’s working.

“The manager has discussed with us the importance of having confidence in

our team’s ability to stick together and not relying solely on luck.”

We deserve to be at the top,

which is why we are. We want to improve upon our performance from the previous year,

when we made it to Europe.

For last Thursday’s match against Zrinjski Mostar,

Emery made substitutions and altered his starting lineup;

eight players who began the win over Arsenal were left off the pitch in Bosnia.

Halfway through their five-week schedule of ten games before the New Year,

Villa is in action. However, thus far, they are managing to handle the two demands.

Like Cash, homegrown player Jacob Ramsey felt that the Champions League is a legitimate goal.

“At this point, our aim should be the top four based on how we’re playing and the results we’re getting,

especially at home,” he stated. I don’t see why we couldn’t carry over our home form into the road games.

“We’ve got the Europa Conference League to focus on and hopefully

we can reach the later stages of that competition, too.

There are a lot of teams fighting for those Champions League spots.”

Emery will have to alter his plan on the trip to the GTech Community Stadium today.

Although his first-choice team has mostly performed well,

he has been suspended for two important players.

Lucas Digne and Douglas Luiz were both banished after receiving five bookings.

This frees up Alex Moreno,

who is healthy after a protracted injury layoff,

to take over at left back,

with Ramsey filling in for the Brazil international.
