McGregor reveals Celtic players’ chat ahead of Feyenoord clash.

Callum McGregor acknowledges that prior to their 2-1 victory over Feyenoord,

Celtic discussed doing themselves justice after a Champions League campaign that was determined by razor-thin margins.

Throughout the six group matches, the East End team was extremely competitive in all but one of the games;

only a rough second half against Atletico Madrid gave rise to concerns that the

Scottish champions might not be at their best.

McGregor and his teammates were determined to dispel the perception in the locker

room that the points on the board don’t completely reflect the reality of the games versus the Dutchmen.

The win was well-earned during an exciting football match that guaranteed

Brendan Rodgers would double Ange Postecoglou’s previous season’s point total and restored dignity.

The Celtic captain, McGregor, also expects that the positive momentum from the evening

would provide a route to success in the redesigned competition, which will feature eight group games, next year.

“We talked before the game about wanting to play with pride, do ourselves justice,

and get what we feel like we deserve out of the group because the performances have been good,”

he stated. However, we must combine it with the outcomes, and there may

have been some effort made to encourage the supporters for, hopefully, the competition the next year.

“It’s good that we have done that and I thought we thoroughly deserved to win the game.

I thought it was a good game of football for both teams with, statistically, nothing to play for.

It was actually a really good game. A win is what we have been striving for.

The performances have been great, but we’ve obviously come away with one point or no points.

If we want to continue and grow and get better, then we have to try and win these types of games.

“Obviously, given how the team has performed thus far and how our home games have gone,

if we receive the maximum number of points, we should be able to advance.

It’s therefore a positive step. The players are confident in themselves, and let’s hope the

crowd is pleased with the effort and outcome. We return on Saturday with a crucial match.
