Rangers star makes AFCON admission amid fears of missing crucial seven-game run.
The 22-year-old forward from Senegal has scored 13 goals so far this season, and manager Philippe Clement has expressed a desire to sign the player long-term.
Abdallah Sima is finally settling in after moving from the Czech Republic. He is currently on loan from Brighton and has not yet appeared in a Premier League game.
The former attacker for Slavia Prague has not received an international cap since 2021,
despite earning four caps for Senegal throughout his previous career.
Abdallah Sima acknowledges that he is hoping to go into the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), though.
Aballah Sima has AFCON in mind
While the striker makes it obvious that he is entirely focused on the Rangers situation,
Abdallah Sima is waiting for the AFCON.
The attacker has put it to the back of his mind, but it’s obvious that it’s still there, someplace,
and he plans to have more conversations about it in the upcoming weeks.
“It’s something really important for us, for African players, in my opinion,” stated Abdallah Sima.
“But now I am focused on my club. That’s the most important now for me.
“I’m just focused on what I’m doing right now so then for African Cup we will see.
“For sure it’s something I think in my mind but I have to speak with the club, with the coaches so we will see in a few weeks.”
Senegal are in Group C of the competition in the Ivory Coast, where they’ll play Gambia, Guinea and Cameroon.
Rangers could lose key player at crucial moment
Although no one is opposing Abdallah Sima’s chance to compete for AFCON success with a strong Senegal squad,
the Ibrox team could likely do without the forward.
The Scotland winter break ends on January 20, and the Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place between January 13 and February 11.
Should Senegal advance far in the competition, Rangers may have to play without
the forward for a number of games if Abdallah Sima is called up.
Incorporating a rest after the tournament, should Senegal go all the way Rangers would
lose Abdallah Sima for seven matches.
Namely, this includes the Scottish Cup tie against Dumbarton and any opponent in the next round
should the Gers overcome the Sons of the rock.
