Everton will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday (16 December).

The Toffees are in terrific form at the moment, and they have already moved out of the drop zone, despite a ten-point deduction.

Paul Merson has suggested that if they win against Burnley this weekend, they will be out of the relegation battle as well. The Toffees are riding high on confidence at the moment, and he thinks they are in a “false position”, courtesy of the deduction.

Everton should be above Chelsea right now without the punishment which shows what an incredible job Sean Dyche has done in such a short time. He will be looking to get a win against his former club who find themselves 19th in the Premier League at the moment.

He thinks the Toffees will win 2-1.

“Everton is playing fantastically right now, but Burnley would have liked their chances a few weeks ago when they looked at this match. I think they win this one because Sean Dyche has his team playing the way he wants and they are having a little run,” Merson told SportsKeeda.

“If Everton win at Turf Moor, they are out of the relegation battle despite the ten-point deduction, which is absolutely incredible.

They are in a bit of a false position in the league – if it wasn’t for the sanction, they’d be ninth or tenth in the standings! That said, the margins are very fine, as they could once again be dragged into a relegation dogfight if they lose this one.

“The Toffees are riding high on confidence and should win this one.”

Incredible

Everton started the season poorly but Dyche has been able to steady the ship. They were performing well before the deduction, but it appears that they have reached a new level after the punishment was meted out.

It seems like they are determined and motivated to make a point, and players are giving everything on the pitch. Dyche will miss the likes of Idrissa Gueye and Jarrad Branthwaite for this game through suspension, but he will hope that the likes of Michael Keane or Ben Godfrey will step up to the plate.

Dwight McNeil is enjoying a rich vein of form, while the likes of Jack Harrison and Abdoulaye Doucoure have impressed heavily in recent weeks. Everton have picked up three wins in a row for the first time since 2021, and have managed five wins and a draw from their last seven games.
