After Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw left their Champions League match against Bayern Munich hurt, Erik ten Hag will be watching the news with bated breath.
With what appeared to be a groin injury, Maguire pulled up during the first half, dealing a serious blow to the Manchester United manager.
Shaw, a fellow defender, participated in the first half but was taken off the field for the second due to what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
United were knocked out of the European competition following the 1-0 defeat to Thomas Tuchel’s side. Ahead of a hectic festive period, ten Hag will be hopeful the pair can return as soon as possible.
Aston Villa will head to Old Trafford on Boxing Day (December 26) for an 8pm kick-off. But before that, the Red Devils have two away games at Liverpool and West Ham respectively.
Asked for an update on the two players after the game, ten Hag said: “We have to wait 24 hours. And then a assessment and diagnosis. So we have to wait for it.”
United have been hit with severe injuries so far this season. Defenders Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia remain absent while the likes of Christian Eriksen, Amadi Diallo and Casemiro are also out injured.
Elsewhere, Marcos Rashford missed Tuesday’s game due to illness and it remains to be seen whether he’ll return to the squad ahead of Sunday’s match with Liverpool.
