After concluding their 2023 last international break earlier this week, Celtic FC Women are preparing to play their league debut this weekend against Spartans.

The Ghirls are back at the Excelsior Stadium on Sunday afternoon (December 10) as they

look to round off what has been another fantastic year with two wins in their final two games before the winter break.

The last time the Hoops played in the SWPL, they defeated Aberdeen 13-0 in

Airdrie thanks to an outstanding effort.

And Maria McAneny was delighted to make her return to action following a period on the sidelines.

Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of the Celts’ league outing against Spartans on Sunday (KO: 2pm),

McAneny said: “It was brilliant to be back out there. I missed playing and it will be good to get back.

‘We’ve got two games left, so hopefully we can just get these two games done and dusted with two wins,

and then we can go into the break.’

“Obviously, it’s unfortunate to be hurt and have to miss out, but you can trust that the

players on the field will give it their all.”

“It’s wonderful to see, and the girls were wonderful when I wasn’t there.”

In front of the Celtic faithful, the Hoops have put on several impressive performances,

scoring 44 goals at home in all competitions thus far this season.

As they gear up to go out in front of the supporters for the final time at Airdrie in 2023,

McAneny is adamant that the team will be looking to end the year with a victory.

She remarked, “We are all excited to play in front of the fans.” We want to send off the season on a high note with this,

our final home game at Airdrie.

‘So that is the aim and hopefully we can do that on Sunday.’

“The next two games will be challenging; they won’t be simple, but we have complete faith.”

“On Sunday against Spartans, we just need to go out there and put everything we have learned in training on the field.”
