Alan Hutton has said that Legia Warsaw would probably face consequences following

the “Ugly” events in their Europa League matchup with Aston Villa.

Following a confrontation with the police that resulted in injuries to

both cops and animals prior to Villa’s 2-1 victory,

46 travelling fans were ultimately charged [The Guardian].

Hutton acknowledged that the matter wasn’t handled well,

but situations involving families and other spectators shouldn’t ever get out of hand.

He exclusively told Villa News,

“I think the whole situation probably wasn’t handled

the best in terms of reading things.”

“They were only allowed to enter after the number of tickets

was reduced from 2,000 to 1,000.

When they were unable to obtain tickets,

they were simply detained.”

“I know there may be some annoyance on the part of the fan if they believe they are going to a game,

have paid for it, and then are turned away,

but it’s not good to react the way you do.

Families attending games is not ideal,

and since they have probably experienced difficulties in the past and it’s not the first time,

I believe this is one of the cases where they will and ought to face consequences.

“Ugly scenes like that shouldn’t occur at any football pitch.”

Hutton began his playing career with the Rangers, with whom he shared the 2005 league championship.

In 2008, he relocated to England and joined Tottenham Hotspur,

helping the team win the League Cup that year.

Hutton signed a contract with Aston Villa in 2011 following a loan stint with Sunderland in 2010.

After experiencing difficulties with Villa at first,

he was sent on loan to Mallorca, Nottingham Forest, and Bolton Wanderers.

Hutton later experienced a comeback with Villa,

where he became known as “The Scottish Cafu” for his valiant defence.
