The league’s player of the year, the J1-League MVP award, which was won a year ago by current Hoops midfielder Tomoki Iwata, has Celtic flop Yosuke Ideguchi on the short list.

Arriving at Parkhead in January 2022 alongside fellow countrymen Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate,

the 27-year-old defensive midfielder struggled to start his Parkhead career because of a combination of injuries and insufficient playing time.

He arrived during Ange Postecoglou’s reign.

Ideguchi sustained an injury during a Scottish Cup match at the Indodrill Stadium against Alloa Athletic, and he only played six games for the Scottish champions in his first half of the season.

The next season, he was sent out on loan after failing to make a single competitive first-team appearance.

The player’s January return to his native country with Avispa Fukouka got off to a rough start when an ankle injury sidelined him for three months.

The 15-cap Japan international, though, saw a remarkable change in his fortunes as a result of the transfer,

as he helped the team secure its highest-ever J-League finish of seventh.

He was also the main reason behind their victory in the YBC Levain Cup.

League authorities have also acknowledged Ideguchi’s outstanding play;

according to a number of Japanese reports,

Avispa is currently in the process of negotiating a long-term deal with Celtic.

The team is keen to have him return to the team permanently because he has been called a “indispensable force”.

Ideguchi, who still has two and a half years left on his contract,

may spearhead a large-scale Parkhead transfer exodus in January as the Hoops look to recoup the £800,000 they paid for the fringe player.

With 32 players on the roster at the moment, Brendan Rodgers is reportedly trying to reduce the size of his bloated squad.

At a ceremony on Tuesday night, Ideguchi will find out if he has won the Player of the Year award.
