What Unai Emery had to say about Villa’s draw against Bournemouth
At the Vitality Stadium, goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins twice tied the score,
but considering the calibre of play we are capable of, Villa’s performance was disappointing.
We had to concede early once more due to some recurrent troubles away from home,
which were made worse by the fact that the mistake originated at the back.
Though Bournemouth deserves credit for that as well,
we definitely didn’t play with the same level of poise and control that we’ve seen from this team over the previous year.
Emery would undoubtedly have been upset with our problems during the course of the 90 minutes.
Nevertheless, he was ultimately pleased with the point after Watkins scored late to salvage a draw, and so in that regard,
it’s an important result as we found a way to get something from the game even though we were far from our best.
Emery was keen to praise that element of the display and reiterated it in his post-match interviews,
stressing the fact that it was positive that we were able to come from behind and get a draw.
Even yet, he was happy with the point in the end since Watkins’ late goal allowed us to salvage a draw.
In that sense, the outcome is significant since we managed to extract some value from the match even if we weren’t at our best.
In his post-match interviews,
Emery emphasised how pleased he was with that aspect of the performance and how encouraging it was that we were able to overcome a deficit and secure a draw.
We reacted again to going behind and this is not an easy point to get,
it was a very tough match and we can feel that this point is a positive,” he is cited as saying by BBC Sport.
“We started by making a mistake but we reacted well and had a goal disallowed by VAR.
Even though we had moments of difficulty,
we persevered. We made an effort to get possession of the ball and score. While not ideal,
this point is also not the worst.
It’s a valid point. We knew that winning today would be challenging.
“We benefit from the point when we lose a game. We intend to make use of this point.
Although it was not easy, we preferred to control the game;
they had plenty of opportunities, and our goalie was excellent.
It is certain now, though, that in order to win any of our home games against Manchester City and Arsenal this coming week,
we will need to perform far better than we did on Sunday.
To maintain our momentum, we needed to win this weekend,
and a late equaliser will have encouraged the team because it appeared like we were going to suffer a heartbreaking defeat.
It is hoped that we will improve this week and build on the successful campaign that has started so far.
Later, in an interview with VillaTV, Emery said,
“It’s not the worst result, but it’s not the best result either.”
“I think it’s a reasonable point, considering how we performed and the pressure they placed on us in the first ninety minutes.
We must acknowledge this and keep working to forge a cohesive unit.
As of right now, we have 29 points in our procedure
We ended up drawing and losing 2-1. It’s critical to believe it’s a valid point.
We appreciate all of our supporters being here today,
and we can’t wait to play again with them at home on Wednesday while attempting to maintain our current level of strength.
“We never give up. Maintaining our consistency while we were losing was crucial.
We spent a lot of time analysing how we handled our emotions over the ninety minutes of the game against Nottingham Forest.
We started the game today with the same error that cost us two goals in the first and second halves when they scored .
“We must always pursue our goals with passion and consistency.
We might give up on some missteps and objectives,
but we must never waver mentally. We had an amazing response today.
When things got tough, we didn’t give up.
They had a few opportunities to score, but we always tried to seize the moment.
“The second goal we scored was incredible,
a truly great goal. We must concede this tie.
