USA set to poach ex-Chelsea and Aston Villa youngster Declan Frith from England
Declan Frith, an English winger who played for Chelsea and Aston Villa, is set to be taken by US Soccer.
The 21-year-old is applying for a passport to play for the United States in March, with his grandmother’s heritage making him eligible.
Frith has been tracked by US scouts since joining Chelsea from non-league Welling United in 2021, having been released by Charlton Athletic.
After barely five months at Chelsea, the forward—who has also played left back—joined Aston Villa, where he finished his career with 12 goals and eight assists.
Frith joined Valencia this summer, and in his first two youth games, he has two goals and one assist despite a delay in the processing of his paperwork.
In the third tier, he has also made three appearances for Valencia B. In the next months, Frith will be quickly promoted to the first squad by the financially pinched former Spanish powerhouses, who are increasingly depending on youth.
The Three Lions are expected to lose another talent to the United States, following the likes of Yunus Musah and Folarin Balogun
The United States will likely initially select Frith for the Under-23s but he could soon follow AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah, an English-born US international who used to play at Mestalla.
