The Celtics’ 3-1 triumph against St Johnstone was a significant victory since it gave

them a much-needed three points after they lost the first half.

After Celtic lost the first half 1-0, Mikey Johnston was the first of the second-half

substitutes that helped change the tide of the match in their favor.

“Obviously it was a tough first half and in the second half we came out fighting and showed

bit more desire and managed to get the three points,” the winger said to Celtic TV after the game.

but the manager had some harsh words for the team during the half,

the Irish international admitted there were no special instructions for him.

When asked what he was expected to do during the intermission, Johnston replied,

“Not much, to be fair.” We were under 1-0 at the break, so it’s evident that you need to have an influence.

I don’t need to be told that this is why I’m playing.

And what an effect that had, particularly when he skillfully threw in a heel flick

to set up the Celtics’ second game-winning goal.

That is the kind of self-assurance he has gained from playing for the Irish national

team and during his loan stint with Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal.

“I had a great year last year and I’ve been playing well at the international level,”

the man stated. I’m content with who I am right now because I’m having fun and I’m

confident in both my physical appearance and my football skills.

“The loan term was excellent; the league is top-tier both technically and physically,

and I gained a lot of knowledge from my own experience living away from home there.

‘I’m back here now and I just want to make an impact.’

“Playing in big occasions and Euro qualifying games you’re expected to perform

and there is a lot of pressure in the game just like the games here, so I feel like I’m used to it and I’m able to do it now.

“A lot of time people go on loan and they’re never seen again, but I thought I could come back and still play here.

“I feel that I can do it and it’s just taking it week by week. Hopefully the chances are going to come and I can take them.”
