On Saturday night, he was brilliant again, scoring the game-winning goal to help Newcastle defeat Manchester United 1-0.

Gordon now has six goals, including four in his previous four St. James’ Park games. But the 22-year-old’s next match is away, in a location he is extremely familiar with.

Gordon was a product of the Everton youth and left the team in January.

Only once since leaving has he returned to Goodison Park, and that was during a Newcastle victory over Everton.

Gordon was a late sub that night. By the time he entered the game, it was already decided, thus his influence was minimal at best.

However, Thursday evening will be distinct. Gordon’s role will be to assist Newcastle in chief creators, and he has now spoke about his looming return to his former employers.

“This game coming up is no different for me than any other,” he said.

“It’s another game I’m looking to perform in and win the game. We’re in a really good place.

“We know the environment we’re going to go into on Thursday. It’s no secret. We need to be ready for that. It’s going to be a challenging game and one that we’re looking to win.”

Newcastle superstar will not receive a good reception at Goodison Park on Thursday

Gordon is responding in a professional manner, considering it to be just another game. That won’t always be the case, though.

The match between Newcastle and Everton has developed into a fierce contest in recent years, and the Toffees supporters will be even more enraged when they see Gordon represent the opposition—during a time when they are already incensed over their Premier League point punishment.

Though he did not go out on good terms, he is now a very different player when he returns to Goodison Park.

The winger is playing at the peak of his abilities, and there are growing cries for him to represent England in Euro 2024. Furthermore, if he performs well on Thursday night at the expense of his old club.
