When images from the match between Everton and Nottingham Forest aired live on the BBC, Alan Shearer was left speechless.

The Toffees picked up all three points in the Premier League encounter at the City Ground on Saturday (2 December).

The game-winning goal came from Dwight McNeil, but Shearer was incensed because Abdoulaye Doucoure did not issue a penalty for pulling Ryan Yates’ shirt inside the box.

Shearer stated on BBC Match of the Day, “It’s not too dissimilar to what happened between Brighton and Forest last week” (2 December).

“Last week, one went against them and one went for them. The lack of consistency is what irritates football players, managers, coaches, and supporters. Since this was a penalty last week.

“How is that not the case? It is not possible to penalize someone for pulling one week and not the next. It’s obvious that he pulled his shirt there. I will pay a price for that.

Lucky?

Everton fans feel they have been very unlucky in recent times following the 10-point Premier League deduction handed to the club.

After plenty of hard work on and off the pitch, the Toffees plummeted from 14th place to 19th place in the league table following the immediate punishment.

And after losing 3-0 at home to Manchester United in their first game since the sanction, Sean Dyche’s side have now climbed one spot to 18th thanks to the three points at the City Ground.

But perhaps they can count themselves lucky this time around, with Everton midfielder Doucoure having his hands all over Yates in the penalty box.

To the annoyance of Yates and his manager Steve Cooper, no penalty was called despite the incident occurring directly in front of the referee.

Although Dyche would undoubtedly be more concerned with the points than that event, it’s possible that the Toffees manager is aware of how his squad managed to escape with a victory in Nottingham.
