According to Soccernet.ng, former Milan center back and technical director Paolo Maldini has criticized the Milan board for the summer’s transfers, calling them a waste of money.

In 2018, Maldini, 56, who had worn the Rossoneri jersey for thirty years, became a technical director at the same team where he had played football for his whole career.

In his time as a Sporting director, Milan had a glimpse of the glory days, becoming UEFA Champions League regulars, and winning the Scudetto in 2022.

Surprisingly, a year later, Milan sacked Maldini and that raised a few eyebrows in the football world after the impeccable development the club experienced with him as a technical director.

In an exclusive with Repubblica, the Milan legend explained what happened with the club’s hierarchy, and labelled the summer transfer that saw Samuel Chukwueze, Luka Jovic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Noah Okafor join the club, as a waste of money.

I smiled a little at the story on this issue. There was no requirement to sign Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic, and Chukwueze, so you don’t have to bother the algorithms. We competed on the market with different weapons, so you can’t compare the last transfer window with the prior four,” the five-time Champions League winner remarked.

Considering the price tags, Maldini was irritated by the caliber of the transfers made during the window.

Chukwueze, who scored 13 goals and contributed 11 assists for the Yellow Submarines the previous season, signed a €30 million contract to join Milan from Villarreal in July.

Chukwueze has only scored once since joining the team since he has primarily been the backup to Christian Pulisic, an ex-Chelsea player.
