Club increasingly happy with ‘groundbreaking’ sale to Aston Villa

As the funds obtained have financed their success this season,

Bayer Leverkusen are growing more and more pleased with the agreement they reached to sell

Moussa Diaby to Aston Villa in the summer.

That’s the claim made by Sport 1, who claim that the “groundbreaking” agreement to sell Diaby to

Aston Villa turned out to be wise for all parties.

The publication details how Simon Rolfes, the sporting director, “silenced” his critics following

the team with the intention of changing its fortunes a year and a half ago.

The publication describes how, after taking over the club’s finances a year and a half ago, sporting director Simon Rolfes “silenced” his detractors.

That appeared to be an insurmountable task,

but he succeeded in molding the team to fit manager Xabi Alonso’s preferences,

turning them into one of Europe’s most intriguing sides and a contender for the Bundesliga championship.

In order to accomplish the work he has done, he had to let go of players this summer,

including Moussa Diaby, Sardar Azmoun, Kerem Demirbay, and Mitchel Bakker.

The latter made a €55 million move to Aston Villa,

and that move turned out to be a “groundbreaking one”

because it gave Rolfes access to a fresh transfer budget that let him purchase “everything his coach wanted.”

With the money received following Diaby’s sale to Aston Villa, he signed Granit Xhaka,

Alejandro Grimaldo, Jonas Hoffman, and Victor Boniface,

who have shown to be “four absolute dream players” for the team and Alonso.

Meanwhile, Diaby is obviously pleased with the transfer as well, having established

himself as a vital player under Unai Emery and picking up where he left off in Germany in England.

Overall, it has shown to be a mutually beneficial agreement for all parties,

but especially for Leverkusen, who had to sell one player to make room for

the inclusion of four players who have proven to be ideal transfers for Rolfes.
