With a fantastic start to the 2023–24 season, Aston Villa is presently ranked in the top four of the Premier League standings.

Thanks to goals from Ollie Watkins and Pau Torres, they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Sunday,

moving them up to fourth place and over Ange Postecoglou’s team. Although Unai Emery has done a fantastic job leading Villa Park thus far, there may be more to come from the team.

The January transfer window presents another chance for him and Monchi to bolster the roster.

A number of teams are allegedly interested in acquiring Nicolai Vallys, a 27-year-old star from Brondby IF,

and Villa is one of them.

If Emery is successful in obtaining his services, Vallys might replace Leon Bailey. Because he can play attacking midfield through the middle or out wide on either flank,

it seems likely that he would be more comfortable playing behind the front two either with Ollie Watkins or in one

of the two attacking midfield roles. Since joining the team from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021,

the Jamaican international has made 72 appearances for the team in all competitions, tallying 12 goals and 12 assists.

This includes 62 Premier League games for Villa with eight goals and nine assists,

demonstrating the winger’s uneven play at the top of the table. In 44 top-flight games since the beginning of the previous season, Bailey has contributed seven goals,

seven assists, and eleven “big chances” created.

This indicates that, over the course of the previous 18 months or so, the left-footed wizard has averaged a direct goal involvement once per 3.14 Premier League games. However, Vallys has been playing brilliantly for Brondby,

and if the 6′ 2″ wizard can convert his success to English football, he may be a huge upgrade over Bailey.

The 27-year-old star has demonstrated this season his capacity to score and set up goals as a flexible attacker

who can play out wide or in the centre of the field.

In 16 Superliga games, the Denmark international has scored nine goals,

provided two assists, and generated four “big chances” for his team. Compared to Emery’s present alternatives at his various positions,

the Villa target, who was hailed as “unique” by his manager Jesper Sorensen,

has been in fantastic form as a scorer and playmaker.

His stellar play for Brondby this season has followed up a season in which he scored eight goals,

provided nine assists, and generated 10 “big chances” in 30 appearances. In his 46 games since the start of the 2022–23 season, Vallys has tallied 17 goals and provided 11 assists for the Danish team,

translating to an average of one contribution every 1.64 games.

Given his greater capacity to provide goals, assists, and “big chances” for his team,

these statistics indicate that the Danish wizard has the potential to regularly outperform Bailey and deliver more quality if he can live up to Premier League standards.
