Farhad Moshiri, the owner of Everton, and the Toffees board have come under fire from Gary Neville for their part in the Blues’ point deduction, saying they “had to be better.”

An independent panel decided that the Toffees had violated the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations by spending £19 million more than the permitted losses while they were owned by Moshiri.

As a result, the team lost 10 points. Neville was highly critical of Moshiri and the Everton board for disobeying the Premier League’s warnings,

even though he agreed that the punishment meted out to the Toffees was far more harsh than was justified or expected.

In an interview with the Liverpool Echo on November 27, he stated: “I felt it was harsh.”

Everton used the word “disproportionate” when they stated they will also be considering the summer sanctions of other clubs,

and I don’t think that’s surprising. “I totally understand your rage.

I could also see why they might be upset with their own ownership and board.

“Even if they are out twenty million pounds or thirty million pounds,

you still have to be better than that. Let’s be precise.

They were informed and cautioned that they were collaborating with the Premier League and that their time was over.

Everton fans have been loud about their displeasure with their current owner following a dreadful few years on Merseyside,

so you don’t need to convince them that Moshiri has done a poor job as owner at Goodison Park.

Without a question, the 10-point deduction handed to the Toffees is quite punitive.

In the upcoming months and years, Everton will be hoping that other Premier League clubs receive similar punishments and that they are not the only ones made fun of.

However, Moshiri was well aware of the Premier League’s sustainability and profit policies,

and despite numerous warnings, they continued to overspend by £19 million. Even if it may not seem like a significant amount in the context of contemporary football,

it is nevertheless an overspend.

777 Partners is still in the process of acquiring the majority of the Toffees, so perhaps Moshiri’s time at Goodison Park is coming to an end.

However, one has to ask themselves if the American company is really that much better than the existing Everton management group.
