Dyche expressed shock over Everton’s 10-point deduction.
Sean Dyche, the manager of Everton, expressed his shock at the
“unjust” 10-point penalty deduction that dropped his team into the Premier League relegation zone.
The shocking sanction was imposed on Dyche’s team last week
after they incurred more losses than allowed by Premier League financial regulations.
Everton is now two points from safety and ranked 19th in the
Premier League after receiving the most severe penalty in the league’s history.
Everton has declared their intent to file an appeal,
and Dyche said the deduction was excessive in his first public remarks following the decision.
Like everyone else in these parts, I believe we’re in disbelief.
The majority of football players and those in the vicinity of football seem to
be shocked by the wave of noise that followed, Dyche told reporters on Friday.
“The enormity of it, disproportionate is a word that has been used by the club,
so obviously we’re going to feel a bit aggrieved by that.”
Everton has lost five straight years. In March,
the Premier League reported the team to an independent commission
for violating its sustainability and profitability policies.
Over a three-year period, clubs can lose a maximum of £105 million ($132 million),
but Everton lost more than that in the three seasons that concluded in 2021/22.
Dyche had hoped that after keeping Everton from relegation the previous season,
They had won three of their previous five league games before the deduction,
so they had made good progress toward that goal.
On Sunday, Dyche’s team will play Manchester United.
He promised that the penalty would not stop him from turning Everton around.
“The focus since I got here has been sorting things out on the pitch,
getting the team to win, getting the team to feel different, the performances to be different,” he explained.
“I thought we were performing really well and were clearly headed in the right direction.
