Mark Guidi believes Celtic might pay £5 million to sign the 23-year-old soon.
According to Mark Guidi, whispers about Sydney van Hooijdonk are
just as persistent as the Jota to Celtic rumors.
This week, there has been talk about Celtic showing interest in
the 23-year-old Dutch striker.
Guidi thinks the club would be willing to spend £5 million on the young player.
Guidi remarked, “I wonder if it’s Sydney van Hooijdonk
because it’s not going away,” on The Go Radio Football Show.
At Bologna, he would seem to be surplus to requirements.
There is undoubtedly some history there with his father, a fantastic Celtics player.
“He’s a terrific age.” He was about to become more involved
with the national team of the Netherlands.
He’ll be trying to make an impression on that team,
especially with the Euros coming up the following summer.
“And if the price was about £5 million, Celtic could sign him for that amount any time,
and he’s probably 23 or 24 years old,
so yeah, why not? You must go take a look at it.
Van Hooijdonk is a project signing, but is he really the best striker
Brendan Rodgers can bring into the team? Celtic certainly need another striker in their ranks.
Given his age and goal-scoring history, it would seem that the young player
would fall under the project category, but Guidi thinks Sydney
has aspirations of playing for the Netherlands national team,
so perhaps Sydney is the real deal.
To be honest, I don’t see it. Since the 2017–18 season,
Van Hooijdonk has had a poor goal scoring record, and that was only at the juvenile level.
If Celtic were to spend £5 million on a striker,
it would have to be someone with a track record, which van Hooijdonk does not currently have.
In other news, Mark Guidi claims that he has been informed by
Celtic officials that his £3 million summer signing is insufficient.
