Celtic makes an initial move to sign a 23-year-old striker who scored 19 goals in the previous campaign.
According to the Corriere di Bologna (via Sport Witness), Celtic has made an initial inquiry about
forward Sydney van Hooijdonk of Bologna.
The 23-year-old will reportedly be made available when the transfer season
reopens in January, according to the Italian daily.
With just one start for Bologna this season, Van Hooijdonk—the son of former
Hoops star Pierre—has failed to get into the game.
That was an opportunity that the Dutchman did not let pass, as at the end of last month, they defeated Hellas Verona 2-0 in the Coppa Italia.
Although the striker hasn’t played much for Bologna lately, he did have a fantastic loan stint at
Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.
In all competitions during the 2022–2023 season, van Hooijdonk scored 19 goals.
Therefore, it is a little strange that since returning to his original club
last summer, he hasn’t been given more chances.
The winners of the Scottish Premiership have depended too much on
Kyogo Furuhashi. No. 9 backup Yes, Hyeon-gyu made an impression by coming off the bench to
score twice in the 6-0 victory over Aberdeen prior to the international break,
but overall, the Hoops are thought to be lacking in offensive depth.
Van Hoojdonk is the correct age and has demonstrated his ability to score goals in a
major European league, thus it is not impossible to make an approach for the former
Netherlands Under 21 player.
However, it is unclear if Celtic intends to sign him permanently or if
they are willing to bring him in on a loan arrangement.
Sydney van Hooijdonk is a Dutch professional football player who was born on February 6, 2000.
He now plays centre striker for Bologna, a Serie A team.
