“Going to occur”… Defender claims he once thought his teammate,

worth £40 million, was going to Arsenal. Nevertheless, these major league teams didn’t give up on Jamie Vardy,

and at the time, Arsenal was rumored to be considering a £40 million move for him.

Danny Simpson has been talking about the rumors that were going

around about Vardy on Filthy Fellas. He says he was certain the striker

was going to sign with Arsenal that summer. Simpson believed Vardy would join Arsenal.

The Foxes’ star players were all being linked with huge moves away

from the King Power Stadium, but the only player who actually got a move was N’Golo Kante who headed to Chelsea.

“Were you guys thinking, ‘We’re not recovering from that,’

when those guys were getting linked to teams, because I know Wenger

was close to both Vardy and Kante?” Someone asked Simpson.

Yes, I sensed that the Vards incident would occur,

but clearly it was a case of “nah man, you can’t leave.” We were buzzing in it,

and it didn’t happen,” Simpson said.

Vardy was a long way from a one season marvel at Leicester,

he proceeded to win a Golden Boot a couple of years after the fact,

and with somewhat more luck, he’d have taken the Foxes to the Champions League on numerous occasions.

Arsenal needed a goalscorer around that time as Alexandre Lacazette didn’t

quite hit the heights expected of him, and, in hindsight, it has to be said that Vardy would’ve been perfect for the Gunners.

Arsenal really missed out here, and if they could turn back time,

perhaps they’d push harder on this deal rather than switching their attentions to Lacazette.
