Celtic Women suffered a heart-wrenching defeat at the Excelsior Stadium in the Sky Sports League Cup semi-final against Rangers.

The game, which saw its outcome decided in the 95th minute, was a rollercoaster of emotions.

The first half of the match offered few clear-cut chances, with Celtic’s captain Kelly Clark coming the closest to scoring.

Her attempt to lob the goalkeeper from the edge of the box was thwarted as the ball was headed off the line.

Rangers responded with a few half-chances but found it challenging to truly test Celtic’s goalkeeper Daugherty.

Heading into half-time, the score remained locked at 0-0, with Celtic perhaps feeling more relieved of the two

sides to have kept the slate clean. The second half brought more action, starting with Celtic being awarded a penalty after Kathryn Hill’s handball.

Chloe Craig took the responsibility and coolly slotted the ball straight down the middle,

giving Celtic the lead. However, Rangers soon equalised through Hill, who made amends for her earlier

error by scoring in a scramble that highlighted Celtic’s defensive vulnerabilities.

Daugherty, in goal for Celtic, displayed commendable skill with a stunning double save from close range,

but Rangers managed to sneak ahead 2-1 despite her efforts.

With the match nearing its conclusion and Celtic trailing, they were granted a lifeline with a second penalty for a foul committed by Middag.

Craig, once again, stepped up and scored, levelling the match and reviving Celtic’s hopes.

Just as extra time seemed imminent, the game took its final and decisive turn.

Celtic’s Hayes made a costly error by fouling Hardy in the box, leading to a penalty for Rangers.

Hardy confidently converted the penalty, sealing a 3-2 victory for Rangers and their spot in the final of the Sky Sports League Cup.

It wasn’t the start that Elena Sadiku wanted, but the focus is now on Glasgow City, another tough test.
