‘Don’t care’: 29-year-old gets bullish in Rangers interview amid Fabio Silva declaration

Ahead of Rangers’ Scottish Cup match against Dumbarton on Thursday, Cyriel Dessers gave a robust press conference.

The striker has received a good deal of criticism from national pundits and supporters who are still not sold on the player Rangers paid

Cremonese £4.5 million to acquire in the summer.

But under new manager Philippe Clement, who has had a significant impact on the entire team rather than just one player, his attacking form has improved.

Due to Danilo’s two major injuries this season, Dessers has had a lengthy stint on the team and has contributed seven assists and nine goals in 30 games for the Gers.

On the surface, 16 goal contributions in that number of games is actually pretty impressive. But Dessers understands that Fabio Silva will provide new challenges throughout the second half of the season, regardless of how good his current numbers appear.

Positive Rangers prognosis for Dessers

Cyriel Dessers is unaffected by Fabio Silva’s rise because he is aware that competition for spots at a team like Rangers is inevitable.

Dessers wants to create his own story at Ibrox this season and do everything in his power to get better, even though he hopes the

Wolves loanee helps the squad.

Dessers stated, as cited in the Daily Record: “There will always be competition at a top team like Rangers. It can only be advantageous.

“I just want to win trophies here, but I’m here for the team, not just for me. Who scores the goal or wins the game doesn’t matter to me.

“The most important thing is that I just want to win.” Fabio is a talented player, so I hope he can be a big assistance to us, but I also

hope I can accomplish my goals. I believe there is a significant difference between my stats before and after the manager arrived.

“There is still growth left and I am working hard everyday to get better, in better shape and form and hopefully, we can help the team

win a lot of games. “We chatted about it but at this point, we don’t need to talk about it every day. I am aware of my abilities and that

he appreciates my traits, so I just need to put in a lot of effort and defend the team.

Tomorrow night in the Scottish Cup, Dessers is expected to start against Dumbarton, and Fabio Silva could be slotted in right behind

him, where the Portuguese player feels he is most comfortable.

Though, as we saw against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday, Silva might be the player to ultimately unseat Dessers at the top of Rangers’

assault with a Clement surprise.
