The Dallas Cowboys have chosen to stay with their current head coach,

despite a number of recent head coaching changes in the NFL and the quantity of well-known coaches still available.

Despite an ugly first-round playoff loss to his former team last weekend,

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Wednesday that head coach Mike McCarthy will be back for the 2024 campaign.

“I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and

the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach,” Jones said in a press release.

“There is great benefit to continuing the team’s progress under Mike’s leadership.”

McCarthy was hired by the Cowboys in 2020 with the express purpose of assisting

Dallas in overcoming a bad postseason run and returning to the Super Bowl.

They still haven’t in the last four years.

The Cowboys’ season ended in yet another sad manner on Sunday as they lost to the Green Bay Packers 48-32 at home in the postseason.

Dallas became the first team in NFL history to finish with three consecutive 12-win seasons and still miss out on the conference title game with that defeat under McCarthy.

That is the furthest the Cowboys have gone in more than 25 years.

Worse, the Packers now have more postseason victories (3) at AT&T Stadium than the home team Cowboys (2),

and Dallas is the first No. 2 seed to ever lose to a No. 7 seed.

McCarthy’s contract expires in 2025, therefore there are no guarantees that he will be back in 2025 when the season begins. But in his fifth season with the franchise,

he still has faith that he can and will break the Cowboys’ postseason curse.

“I think that the leadership, the direction, everything is in place,”

McCarthy stated during a news briefing on Thursday am.

“And although I don’t want to talk about myself,

my goal in coming here is to win a title. Other than that,

I didn’t come here to get another contract.

My purpose for being here is to win a world championship, which is why I travelled to Dallas. Invest in us.”
