McCarthy will rejoin the Dallas Cowboys as head coach in 2024, according to a report released on Wednesday night by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.

McCarthy and his staff conducted exit conversations with players three days following the Dallas Cowboys’ devastating 48-32 wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers. However, McCarthy will not be leaving until the ’24 season, which is the final one left on his present deal.

According to Pelissero on NFL Total Access, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is renowned for taking a step back to assess the situation following the conclusion of a season. However, Jones had not stated that he would like to make a coaching change before to the regular season.

As the Cowboys’ head coach, McCarthy is 42-25, with three consecutive 12-win seasons under his belt, including two NFC East crowns. The 60-year-old coach is 1-2 in the playoffs, though, and is the sixth Dallas head coach to fail to get the team past the Divisional Round since Barry Switzer in 1995.

The Packers’ defeat on Sunday ended that run. McCarthy will get another chance at least to help Dallas move beyond its divisional obstacle.

Questions remain, nevertheless, over the staff.

Numerous teams with open head coaching positions have expressed interest in hiring the team’s defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn. In 2023, McCarthy also assumed the role of offensive coordinator. Up until the club’s dramatic decline in the playoffs, most of the team enjoyed success. Will McCarthy resume his role as OC?

McCarthy will return to lead the team, but there are still unknowns regarding staff changes.
