Aston Villa transfer blow as medical update given after ‘€18m agreement’

Cyril Ngonge appears to have been passed over by Aston Villa as he is on the verge of joining Napoli. The 23-year-old has been strongly linked to Villa for a January transfer. Villa would need to put in some effort to persuade the player

to come to the Midlands, despite reports earlier in the month claiming that the club had struck a “agreement” with

Hellas Verona over the sale.

Serie A teams AC Milan and Fiorentina are reportedly rivals of Unai Emery’s team. However, it appears that another

Italian team has moved ahead of schedule and is pursuing the deal.

According to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, Ngonge is about to sign a contract with Napoli after having

“completed” his medical examinations. According to reports, the two clubs have agreed on a price of €18 million,

plus an additional €2 million (£15.5 million + £1.7 million).

Winger’s effort draws attention

The winger’s efforts in Italy this season have drawn attention. In his first 19 Serie A appearances of the season, he

has six goals and two assists.

Ngonge scored what ended up being the game-winning goal in Hellas Verona’s 2-1 victory over Empoli on Saturday,

marking what may have been his last appearance for the team.

If his transfer to Napoli goes through on schedule, he might make his debut in this weekend’s Serie A match against

Napoli after being introduced to the crowd in tomorrow night’s Italian Cup semifinal against Fiorentina.

With regard to Villa and their Premier League opponents, the transfer market has been quiet thus far. According to

Unai Emery, players will only report to the team this month if the terms are acceptable.

He had stated back in December, “Only if we can get something to really help for the next month we are going to do.”

“We’ll be on the lookout for opportunities to bolster our team to carry out the task.

“We are now content, and with the players we have, we are producing solid results, dedication, and a competitive

framework. I’m not sure if the transfers are bringing anything or not.”
