Ex-Rangers midfielder meets with Celtic representatives ahead of £2.8m switch

Christian Nerlinger, a former Rangers midfielder, was seen flying into Glasgow with Nicolas Kuhn, a possible potential Celtic recruit.

The former Ibrox star and the Rapid Vienna winger, who is expected to finalize a £2.8 million transfer to Parkhead,

were both photographed at Glasgow Airport.

One of the Austrian winger’s representatives is Christian Nerlinger, a former German international who played three

injury-plagued seasons with Rangers between 2001 and 2004.

The fifty-year-old former midfielder for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund held the position of sporting

director for a while and has many contacts in the football industry.

According to reports, Parkhead representatives “whisked away” Kuhn and Nerlinger along with other agent Fabian Dingler.

Christian Nerlinger, Nicolas Kuhn, & Celtic

In 2014, it was rumored that Christian Nerlinger, Nicolas Kuhn, and Celtic Rangers had negotiations with Nerlinger

regarding a Director-of-Football-type job.

We’re sure our friends to the east will be pleased that a former Rangers midfielder is shaking hands in the Parkhead

boardroom, as he now represents potential new Celtic signing Nicolas Kuhn.

Especially when Christian Nerlinger reportedly pocketed £1.8m from the EBT tax-avoidance scheme which

ultimately led to Rangers’ collapse.

But there’s no denying that Christian Nerlinger’s tenure with the Rangers was a complete and utter failure for a

variety of reasons. One of these is his part in the team’s financial downfall, albeit we can’t truly hold the midfield player accountable for it.

However, the midfield player’s meager three-year playing career after Rangers spent Borussia Dortmund £2.5

million to acquire him is indicative of the club’s terrible transfer policy of the time.

Rangers struggles to make a deal while Celtic spends

Concerning Celtic’s acquisition of Nicholas Kuhn, we are accustomed to the Parkhead team acquiring project players

for around £3 million, often with erratic outcomes.

Rangers supporters will be aware that the Parkhead team is paying money to strengthen their title campaign, but

we’ll have to wait and see how the winger performs in Scotland.

Rangers, on the other hand, are compelled to look for loan agreements at discount stores or wait until transfer

payments from departing players enter the team after an extremely shocking £21 million summer spending spree.

The January window still has a few weeks left, and the Rangers still plan to complete transfers.

However, based on the most recent transfer update from Philippe Clement, the window is proving to be just as

challenging as we all anticipated.

Rangers has only closed one deal this transfer window, beating Celtic to Wolves attacker Fabio Silva on loan.
