Joe Rothwell, a midfielder for Bournemouth, is expected to accept a loan deal with Southampton,

18 months after turning down the opportunity to go with Rangers.

As far back as the January 2022 transfer window, Rothwell was linked to Rangers, and at one point,

it was said that the Gers were “almost certain” to make a move for the then-Blackburn star.

But after six months, the former Manchester United youth moved to freshly promoted Bournemouth,

where he has spent the previous year and a half, with Rangers once more being connected to the player.

Joe Rothwell to Southampton

The midfielder appears to be preparing to leave the Premier League to support Southampton,

who are vying for promotion to the Championship.

According to reports from outlets like Sky Sports,

Bournemouth has consented to let the 29-year-old to relocate to St Mary’s.

With 11 Premier League games this season, Joe Rothwell is reportedly undergoing a physical on the south coast.

The midfielder is reportedly having this procedure.

In addition, Rothwell earned 20 Premier League games for Bournemouth the previous season.

The midfielder, who is linked to Rangers, is a valuable addition to the Cherries’ roster.

Midfielder chose Bournemouth over Rangers

Supporters of Ibrox will take notice of the decision given that the player seems to have rejected the chance to relocate to Glasgow eighteen months prior.

Although Rothwell’s contract at Blackburn Rovers was about to expire, the Gers were heavily connected to him;

nevertheless, the Premier League’s attraction ultimately proved to be too much for the Ibrox team.

However, it is pretty amazing that Rangers still find it tough to compete in the modern day for players

when it comes to teams like Bournemouth,

who have an 11,000-seat stadium and have never won a major championship.

Joe Rothwell has returned to the Championship,

presumably in an attempt to play more often,

and it begs the question of whether the midfield player feels guilty about passing up

the opportunity to go down in English football history as a legendary example of mediocrity.

Even if Rangers lack the financial resources to compete with teams in the Premier League’s lower divisions,

there is more than just money at stake at Ibrox.
