Former NFL GM declares he would draft Caleb Williams over Peyton Manning
NBC Sports Chicago first reported that a former NFL general manager said he would select Caleb Williams over Peyton Manning in the draft.
Caleb Williams’ status as the number one pick in the 2024 NFL draft class is one of the key uncertainties.
Several experts have labeled the USC quarterback as a “generational quarterback” this season. However, others were
uncertain about his potential after his unimpressive performances this season against Utah, Oregon, and Notre
Dame.
In fictitious re-draft situations, a previous NFL general manager would select him above many quarterbacks,
including Peyton Manning.
“Peyton was a pocket passer, which was popular at the time. Caleb (is) the notch up solely because of the
athleticism,” former NFL GM Rick Spielman said.
Andrew Luck was the one quarterback that Spielman would not select over Williams. Dan Marino, Joe Burrow,
Trevor Lawrence, and Williams are the players Spielman claims he would rather choose.
NFL draft of 2024
In the NFL draft of 2024, the Bears will select first overall. They are absolutely guaranteed a pick in Williams. It also
appears from a recent article that their initial assessments are heading in that direction.
“I have talked to some people in and around the program who believe they will eventually land on a Caleb Williams
or a quarterback at No. 1 but still has to be sorted out,” Jeremy Fowler told ESPN.
Fowler said that Williams is regarded by the majority of the league as the best quarterback available in the draft.
Additionally, a portion of his article implied that the Bears are still very early in the process of drafting their study.
Williams has not yet announced for the NFL draft, for what that’s worth. He can choose to return to USC or declare
for the 2024 NFL draft by January 15.
