Fabrizio Romano shares brand new Josh Doig-Rangers transfer update today
According to Fabrizio Romano, Rangers never worked on a deal to sign Josh Doig, a defender for Hellas Verona, during the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old is now expected to sign with Marseille, according to the Italian journalist, who tweeted on Saturday,
January 13th, about the Gers’ lack of interest in signing him.
He continued by saying that the Ligue 1 team and Italian team Verona have finally finalized the arrangements, with
the Scottish left-back’s personal terms having been agreed upon and the medical examinations scheduled for the
coming days.
Strange
After so many stories to the contrary since the window opened, it’s very strange to learn that Rangers were never
genuinely in the running to sign Doig in January.
It’s highly possible that the former Hibernian defender was never truly on their radar, though, as Romano frequently
provides accurate transfer updates.
Maybe Verona’s interest in recruiting Gers defender Ridvan Yilmaz this month—who appears to be leaving Ibrox—is
the only reason the rumors started circulating.
Due to Borna Barisic’s contract expiring at the end of the current campaign, Philippe Clement will likely need to
expand his alternatives at left back.
Even though the Light Blues have been linked to multiple players in that position thus far this month, they still have
more than a few weeks to find a replacement in the event that Yilmaz departs.
