In the midst of an £8.6 million Manchester United development, Rangers have raised the possibility of signing Benfica star David Jurasek.

The news organization claims on its website (January 13) that the Portuguese powerhouses are nearing an £8.6

million loan agreement for Alvaro Fernandez with a buyout option.

Jurasek, who joined Lisbon for £12 million in the summer, should be able to depart as a result, as Rangers are eager

to sign the 23-year-old Czech international.

They added, HITC has been informed that Alvaro Fernandez is close to joining Benfica from the Red Devils, thereby

ending his loan spell at La Liga outfit Granada.”

The Spain under-21 left-back, who has an option to buy for £8.6 million in his contract, will initially join the

Primeira Liga’s top teams on a temporary basis.

HITC is also aware that David Jurasek, another left-back, will be able to leave Benfica as a result of Fernandez’s

arrival. Marseille and Rangers are admirers of the 23-year-old Czech defender.

It’s interesting to note that both teams are corresponding with Hellas Verona regarding Josh Doig, a former

Hibernian flier. But apparently, Doig is headed to Marseille rather than Rangers. And it might free up Philippe

Clement’s team to go after Jurasek.

“Rangers would probably need to accept a significant loss on a player who has struggled to live up to his sizeable

price-tag if they do want Jurasek on a full-time basis from Benfica.”

Domino Effect

Rangers find themselves in an unusual transfer predicament because there isn’t really a compelling necessity for the

team to move on from Ridvan Yilmaz.

Given that Borna Barisic’s contract expires in the summer, there’s a chance the Turkey international, whose form has

been strong lately, leaves without receiving any compensation.

Josh Doig’s transfer could be the first domino to fall, though, since Philippe Clement appears set on replacing Yilmaz

in this window.

According to sources, the Scot is leaving for Marseille, and Yilmaz is being considered by Verona to take his position.

Benfica’s subsequent acquisition of Fernandez from Manchester United clears the way for Rangers to sign Jurasek

and provide the manager with what he desires.

It will be intriguing to watch in the coming days to see if it’s a loan or a reduced price deal, but Rangers may be about

to embark on a new chapter in their history.
