The Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and the San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator
Klint Kubiak are the two NFC West coaches that the Bears are reportedly going to interview for the vacant offensive coordinator post.
Waldron is descended from the coaching tree of Sean McVay. The Bears’ desire for an interview with Waldron was
originally revealed by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. From 2017 to 2020, he collaborated with McVay for four
seasons while working as an employee of the Los Angeles Rams. The Seahawks brought in Waldron in 2021 to take
Brian Schottenheimer’s position as offensive coordinator. Notably, he helped restart Geno Smith’s career in Seattle.
Following Pete Carroll’s resignation as head coach, Seahawks coaches were free to pursue coaching opportunities
elsewhere.
Prior to replacing the traded Russell Wilson, Smith was a backup who played for the New York Jets, New York
Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and Seattle Mariners.
Under Waldron, Smith passed for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2022, his first year as a starter. Despite missing
time due to injury during the previous season, Smith passed for 3,624 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Kubiak is the 49ers’ passing game coordinator at the moment.
He will be interviewed by the Bears, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Gary, his father, was a head coach in
Denver and Houston. Gary’s Broncos team won Super Bowl 50 during Peyton Manning’s last NFL season. Under
Kyle Shanahan, Klint is an element of the offensive system in San Francisco.
As part of the Niners offense led by quarterback Brock Purdy—who was chosen with the final choice of the 2022 NFL
Draft—Kubiak is involved. Purdy led San Francisco to the NFC West title in his first full season as a starter, throwing

coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 and as the play caller for the Broncos in 2022 after former Denver
