According to Football Scotland, Rangers defender Borna Barisic has been courted by La Liga teams, but the

Ibrox club has moved behind the scenes.

The Croatian defender’s current contract expires at the end of the season, thus the Light Blues are hoping to

entice possible suitors with a new one during the January transfer window, according to an outlet that published

a story on Friday, January 12.

Barisic, who is approaching the last six months of his Rangers deal, is reportedly being approached by a number

of teams interested in signing him. These teams include those in Ligue 1, La Liga, and Serie B.

But Rangers are keen to bring an end to these exit discussions and have already made a move to secure the

defender’s future with a new contract in Glasgow.

Get him secured

Rangers cannot afford to let Barisic walk away for nothing come the end of the season. The Light Blues don’t

have many options at left-back and if they let the Croatian depart they could be massively harming their chances

of lifting the Premiership title in the future.

Ridvan Yilmaz seems destined to depart Scotland this month as Hellas Verona close in on the Turkish full back

and if Barisic was to follow his positional peer at the end of the season, Clement wouldn’t have a genuine left-

back in his squad.

If Barisic leaves the Light Blues during the summer transfer window, at least having a new contract with him will

guarantee that they will be paid a fair amount. It would be terrible for the Gers to watch him leave for nothing at

the conclusion of the season as a successful international defender.

Hopefully, this month’s interest from European teams won’t have swayed the 31-year-old’s decision, and he’ll

sign a new contract at Ibrox. Rangers will be hoping that they have persuaded the Croatian to sign a contract.
