If the Bears so choose, they can add Marvin Harrison Jr., a gifted wide receiver from Ohio State, to their roster. Harrison Jr. made his formal NFL Draft declaration on Thursday.

The news is not shocking because Harrison Jr.’s decision to enter the pros from college was long anticipated.

Some claim Harrison Jr. is the most gifted player in this year’s draft, and he is already widely regarded as top-

three pick. The Bears selecting Harrison Jr. with the first overall choice in the draft seems improbable.

The best quarterback or pass rusher selected in the draft nearly invariably gets that place.

The last time a quarterback or EDGE player didn’t go first in the draft was in 2013, when offensive tackle Eric Fisher

was selected first overall. When Keyshawn Johnson was selected by the Jets in the 1996 draft, wide receivers were

not selected first overall before. Interestingly, the Colts selected Marvin Harrison Jr.’s father in the same draft year.

In theory, the Bears could select Harrison Jr. after trading back one or two positions. The Bears would immediately

have one of the top pass-catching tandems in the league if they paired DJ Moore with the upcoming rookie wide out.

Harrison Jr. caught 155 passes for 2,613 yards and 31 touchdowns in 38 games at Ohio State.
