Derek Ferguson has stated that the Rangers made a “good decision” in allowing Ben Williamson to leave Ibrox on a full-time basis because he needs to be playing regular football.

Following the completion of his six-month loan at Championship team Partick Thistle on Monday, January 1, the

academy product signed a permanent contract with the Gers on Thursday, January 4.

Supporters were taken aback that the 22-year-old was permitted to depart since they thought he was a player with

promise at Rangers.

Ferguson, who made this statement exclusively to Ibrox News, acknowledges the reasoning behind the choice and

believes Williamson can now rise back up the ranks.

Ferguson remarked, “I saw him a few times at Arbroath; he also went out on loan to Partick Thistle.”

It’s evident that there is a player there, but eventually you have to move on if it’s not meant to be, and I believe that’s

a wise choice. You have to go play football.

“I am aware that Hamilton is currently in League One, but occasionally, for whatever reason, things simply don’t

work out for a player there.

“Therefore, I commend the young man for his decision to take risks, drop a level, and perhaps climb back up.” A

small jab about the boy is also included.

“But that’s the life of a football player; it’s unfortunate that you could say that about a lot of young boys.”
