Rangers transfer news: Joe Gelhardt, a Celtic target, might try to push Leeds United out
According to Leeds Live, Joe Gelhardt, who is being pursued by Rangers and Celtic, might try to force a January
departure from Leeds United in order to receive more playing time.
According to a January 10 news source, Plymouth Argyle has joined the Old Firm pair in their pursuit of signing
the 21-year-old this month.
The Whites have still not understood to have made a decision on whether or not they will let go of their striker.
According to the report, the 21-year-old has been linked to both Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers this week.
Plymouth Argyle, a Championship team, is the most recent team to be credited with interest in the player, who is
expected to have several suitors, whether on a loan until the end of the season or something more permanent.
Plymouth is reportedly prepared to battle any rivals to try and sign their target, but Leeds must first decide how
to handle a player who the team doesn’t want to let go but is unlikely to play for the first team.
“Gelhardt is young enough to wait it out, but if he stays at Elland Road this season, it appears he won’t get any
game time, so he might try to force the issue and ask for a loan move away.”
Can do better
Rangers are looking to leapfrog Celtic in the title race and can do much better than Gelhardt in the January
transfer window.
His return of just five goals in his last 60 league games indicates a lack of consistent goal-scoring form, which
may not meet the standards expected at a club of Gers’ calibre.
To compete at the highest level, Rangers need a striker who can consistently find the back of the net and
contribute significantly to the team’s offensive capabilities.
Gelhardt, while young and potentially promising, hasn’t demonstrated the scoring prowess necessary for a club
with title ambitions.
Philippe Clement, if he’s looking for another one, should target a striker with a proven track record of goal-
scoring in competitive leagues, someone who can handle the pressure of big matches and deliver when it matters
most.
Acquiring a more seasoned and prolific striker aligns with the club’s ambitions and enhances their chances of
success both domestically and on the European stage.
