The Scottish Sun reports that Michy Batshuayi, a striker for Fenerbahce,

is not in talks to sign a new contract with the Turkish team,

and Rangers are leading the chase to recruit him.

Late on January 9, the newspaper announced on their website that the Light Blues are attempting to sign the Belgian international to a short-term contract,

which would be a “major transfer coup.”

With Danilo out due to injury and Sam Lammers scheduled to go on loan to FC Utrecht,

the 30-year-old is being targeted to strengthen Philippe Clement’s front line.

Kemar Roofe has long struggled with fitness concerns.

Despite being in first position, Rangers are reportedly not the only team interested in the former Chelsea forward,

who has eight goals this season across all competitions.

The response?

It’s possible that Batshuayi never quite reached the heights anticipated of him when £33 million was paid to bring him from Marseille to Stamford Bridge in 2016.

However, he has scored goals everywhere he has played,

including for Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace, and Besiktas.

Out of 53 caps, he has scored 27 goals for his country.

Therefore, he might be exactly what Clement has been searching for as he attempts to quickly

turn around a striking department that was already having trouble following Michael Beale’s summer signing,

prior to the squad’s never-ending injury issue impacting that area.

It is difficult to overlook Batshuayi as an improvement for the struggling Lammers, who may perhaps return to

the Eredivisie on loan if the Gers can sign the Belgian for the duration of the season at the very least.

Rangers is still in the running for the title after their December 30 loss to Celtic.

They have two games remaining against their Old Firm rivals,

and their outstanding Europa League qualification puts them in the running for the championship after they had previously won the Viaplay Cup.

January transfers were essential because it would have been extremely difficult to imagine Clement leading the team to additional success this season if he was depending solely on Cyriel Dessers and Lammers.

Although Fabio Silva’s loan move from Wolves is encouraging, he is unlikely to score often,

so an Ibrox coach could do worse than his countryman Batshuayi at number nine.
