Ferguson upset as the “phenomenal” Rangers star was sidelined for the majority of January.
Derek Ferguson is thrilled to be playing for Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, but he is “gutted” that the “phenomenal” Abdallah Sima will not be available for the Rangers.
The Brighton forward, who is on loan to Rangers, has performed admirably this season and has shown himself to be
one of the few constant bright spots from the disastrous summer transfer window under former manager Michael
Beale.
On December 29th, Football Senegal announced that Sima has qualified for the event, which is scheduled to take
place from January 13th to February 11th, for his nation.
Senegal is one of the favorites to win the tournament, which is being held in the Ivory Coast. Former Rangers player
Ferguson, who spoke exclusively to Ibrox News, lamented the loss of a player who has scored 15 goals this season
across all competitions.
“It’s going to be a big miss for the Rangers because, let’s not make any bones about it, he’s been sensational,”
Ferguson told Ibrox News. “It’s a toughie, of course you’re pleased for the guy from a personal point of view.”
“I simply adore this guy’s attitude; he’s been asked to take on various roles under the manager, and you never hear
him whining about it; instead, he just goes about his work.”When I watched him in a few European games, I thought
he was amazing. He occasionally played left defense, but ultimately, you have to remember that the team matters
more than any one player.
Although he will be greatly missed, I believe the manager adores that. His goal against Kilmarnock was amazing, in
my opinion, even though it came from an odd height. His volley skill and reflexes were excellent.
However, I believe it’s just his general approach. I adore the pace, power, and finishes he’s delivered lately. He
doesn’t feel sorry for himself; he makes mistakes as everyone else does, but he just moves on.
Thus, he will be greatly missed. From a personal standpoint, I’m happy, but I’m sad he’ll be gone for a while.
