Why time is running out for the Cowboys to make a Super Bowl run

It’s a great chance for the Cowboys,

and it won’t get any simpler after this season.

The NFC East champions are the Dallas Cowboys.

They have a shot at the championship and are in the playoffs for the third consecutive year.

Naturally, the last plays of the previous two seasons have involved Ezekiel Elliott

being bullied over at centre and a botched spike.

It’s not a pleasant memory.

As they compete once again this season,

the Cowboys want to leave us with some better memories.

There’s something a touch off this year.

They’ve experienced feelings of being on top of the world

and being completely unnoticed by us at different moments.

The Cowboys have a fantastic opportunity that must be taken advantage of.

Not just because we would feel satisfied straight away,

but also because this could be our best opportunity to win a Lombardi trophy, and here’s why.

Every year, the Cowboys have to make difficult offseason choices.

They let rid of Amari Cooper, Randy Gregory, and La’el Collins the year before,

and they let go of Ezekiel Elliott and Dalton Schultz last season.

It’s possible that this offseason will hurt a little more than previous ones.

Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith, Tyler Biadasz, and Stephon Gilmore will all be free agents without restrictions.

They’re all former Pro Bowl players.

In addition, the squad has a number of important defensive players,

like Dante Fowler, Jayron Kearse, Jonathan Hankins, and Jourdan Lewis, hitting the market.

Some of these players may be allowed to stay with the Cowboys,

but we would have to assume that the majority of them will have played their final game wearing Cowboys gear.

The Cowboys’ financial limitations are the cause of this.

They presently rank eighth in the league with $11 million over the 2024 cap.

They still need to be picky about the players they can re-sign, even with their planned reorganisation.

Additionally, they have some very significant deals coming up,

like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons’ upcoming contract extensions.

They won’t be inexpensive.

The Cowboys should be fine as long as they keep selecting well

and adding talent to their roster,

but we also shouldn’t undervalue the group of players they presently have.

This is a capable squad that can finish it.

Not simply the group members are subject to change.

There may be changes at the top of the Cowboys’ coaching staff in Dallas.

While Mike McCarthy is often praised for three consecutive seasons with twelve wins,

is that really his fault?Barry Switzer, like McCarthy, inherited quality teams;

in fact, many hailed him for winning a Super Bowl and even Wade Phillips for going 13-3 in his rookie season.

And those coaches, as we all know,

weren’t the solution.

Is Jerry Jones going to retain McCarthy if his Cowboys put on another

lacklustre show and end up disappointed once more?

Dan Quinn, what about him?

For what duration will he continue to play the supporting role in Dallas?

It appears that another team will eventually be able to entice him away.

Quinn’s presence in Dallas and not McCarthy’s

could be the reason for the Cowboys’ three consecutive postseason appearances.

Quinn and McCarthy have managed to make their marriage work thus far,

but three straight setbacks could make it stale.

To restore the magic, something may need to alter.

Not to mention that Quinn’s defence has done its share,

giving up 19 points (2022) and 21 points (2021) in the playoffs against

a strong San Francisco club in the previous two years.
