Intense month ahead as Rangers look to
seal Steven Alzate transfer in January On
January 9, a Colombian news source
revealed that Brighton might decide to
let Alzate go on a free transfer at the end
of the season instead of letting his contract expire.
Alzate has spent time travelling between
Belgium, where he is currently on loan
with Standard Liege, and Brighton,
where he has been recovering from his
injury, which he admits has tired him out.
Alzate chose to use Brighton’s facilities
rather than stay with his loan club
during his six-week recuperation from
an anterior talofibular ligament tear,
which has raised questions about
whether he will actually return to Belgium.
After Jeremy Sarmiento was called back
from his loan stay with West Brom and
sent to the high-flying Ipswich, Brighton
has already demonstrated this transfer
window that they will not hesitate to
recall players from loan moves if better
possibilities present themselves.
Rather than letting him finish the season
on loan at Standard Liege and then walk
away for free, Brighton could be better
off moving him to Rangers in order to
capitalize on their asset in January.
With all the travelling between England
and Belgium, Glasgow could be Alzate’s
final destination if he decides to move to
Rangers, with Philippe Clement’s side
keen on making him their second signing of the window after Fabio Silva.
