Aston Villa may have a chance to acquire Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong if they qualify for the

Champions League this year, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider.

In the forthcoming summer transfer window, Unai Emery’s team is looking to add a right-back,

and they think

Frimpong, 23, is a good fit.

The Netherlands international is expected to become available through a release clause valued at approximately £35

million later this year.

This season, he has made an impression for Bundesliga leaders Leverkusen, drawing interest from Villa and other

elite European teams.

According to Football Insider, a reliable source, Villa’s chances of making a move for Frimpong could be contingent

on how they fare in their competition for a top-four Premier League finish.

In the off-season, Frimpong is probably going to receive offers from Champions League teams; keeping the 23-year-

old at the top of continental football is crucial to attracting him away from Leverkusen.

In his 22 appearances in all competitions this season, he has managed seven goals and ten assists.

The former Celtic player, whose contract expires in June 2028, has only ever appeared for Xabi Alonso’s team on the

right flank of a 3-4-3 formation.

After joining Leverkusen in January 2021, he has played 117 games for the team,

scoring 18 goals and dishing out 30 assists.

This season, Aston Villa has frequently deployed conventional center-back Ezri Konsa on the right side of their

defense due to uncertainty surrounding Matty Cash’s future.

In the standings, Emery’s team is ranked second, and they will take on Everton on Sunday, January 14.
