Brendan Rodgers will not allow the champions to rest on their laurels,

according to former Celtic full-back Mark Wilson,

thus Rangers must bolster their roster during the summer window if they are to challenge for the championship.

Even though the Ibrox team still has two games remaining,

Celtic leads their nearest rivals by eight points heading into the winter break.

However, Wilson thinks that if Rangers don’t make any additions to their roster in January,

they won’t be able to catch up because,

in addition to Celtic being even stronger following the break when players return from injury,

manager Aaron Rodgers will undoubtedly add quality to his roster in crucial areas.

Wilson stated, “I believe Rangers will get stronger, and they must if they want to really challenge Celtic.”

“I believe it would appear strange if manager Aaron Rodgers didn’t get at least a couple in when he publicly stated earlier in the season that he wants four players.”

“[Celtic] will probably get stronger. They need to strengthen, in my opinion,

not just for this season but also for the following one,

if they want to enter the Champions League with a more seasoned team and really give it their best shot.

To do this, players must be brought in faster. as opposed to merely offering them a few weeks.

“I believe a few will be added. To relieve some of Kyogo’s workload,

I’d like to see them add a striker (Furuhashi). Though I’m not sure Oh (Hyeon-gyu) is the solution.

He’s still young, having only been here a year.

However, I believe they need someone to push Kyogo incredibly hard.

“As well as a custodian. Although I don’t think he has anyone truly pushing him,

I still believe Joe Hart has some legs left in him.

“So, it’s both ends of the pitch for me.”

Although Wilson is confident that Celtic will recruit players from a position of strength this month,

he believes that Liel Abada’s and Reo Hatate’s return,

following their return from the Asian Cup,

might be crucial to Celtic’s prospects of winning the second part of the season.

He believes that the mid-December slump that saw Celtic record back-to-back losses to Kilmarnock and Hearts will soon be a distant memory and that Rodgers is finally winning over even his harshest critics after four impressive victories in a row to close out the first half of the campaign.

“I believe they’ve made significant progress since four or five weeks ago,” he remarked.

“Before that, Brendan Rodgers was having more difficulty.

There seemed to be a slight dissatisfaction among the crowd,

as if they were simply waiting for anything to go wrong. When something does go wrong,

you will feel the brunt of the pressure really quickly.

“Those four games before Christmas were crucial,

in my opinion, and he handled that nicely. not only to obtain performances but also to win them.

“It performed much better against Dundee after starting badly against Livi. Of course,

the best game came against the Rangers, when they were playing much closer to their true selves.

The victory over St. Mirren capped it perfectly.

Teams occasionally simply experience that brief phase. Some people,

myself included, didn’t get it because the important characters were absent.

“Everyone believes that Celtic won’t be impacted because of their incredibly vast roster. Naturally, though, it does.

“Not only were players like Hatate and Abada absent,

but the centre halves were also chopping and changing.” That will have an impact on you, just as it did on them.

“I think they’ll be a lot better coming back from the break with a fit Hatate and a fit Abada.”

Wilson believes that Abada in particular may have a significant impact for Celtic,

who have so far this season found it difficult to match the output of both Jota on the left and the Israeli on the right in their assault.

On one side, Luis Palma has begun to replace the hole, and on the other,

the return of Abada should theoretically increase Celtic’s attacking threat even more.

“He has been [vital] since his debut,” he remarked.

“Since his debut, he has continued to score goals.”

Like all wingers, he is. On the ball, it can occasionally be hit or miss.

These days, everyone is fixated on statistics and the output that wide players can generate.

Any team will undoubtedly miss him because he ranks among the top players in terms of goals and assists.

This season, there have been cuts and changes at that position.

Mikey Johnston and James Forrest were also brought back in,

and Yang (Hyun-Jun) was given a chance to try things out there.

None have truly jumped out. Even upon his return, (Daizen) Maeda appeared rather out of date.

“No doubt a fit Abada just comes straight back into that starting XI.”
