Rangers rumors are hushed as the 27-year-old hitman signs a new deal, according to a report
In order to remain with Brazilian team Santos and support their push for promotion the following season, former Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has decided to take a sizable wage reduction.
The 27-year-old Colombian striker had a challenging season with Sao Paolo last year, going without a goal in his
debut campaign with the Brazilian team.
Following Santos’ first-ever relegation from the Brazilian top division, there were also tense moments.
Due to a release clause in Morelos’ contract, which prevented him from playing more than 76 minutes in the
previous season, it appeared as though Alfie’s trip to Brazil might end before it had started.
Alfredo Morelos accepts Santos’ pay reduction
Following his return to pre-season training this week, there are now claims indicating that the striker is prepared to
accept a 50% pay cut in order to stay in Brazil.
Alfredo Morelos, who is expected to earn £20k to help Santos battle for promotion, was reputedly earning £40k per
week in Brazil during the second half of the previous season.
Fans of the Rangers will be keenly following El Bufalo’s career as he gets to experience a full preseason and, perhaps,
a whole campaign with the Brazilians after the news.
After leaving Ibrox in the summer after six years in Glasgow, Alfredo Morelos struggled to find a new club amid ties
to Russia and Spain.
As Rangers attempt to add a new striker to the squad this January, the announcement will also put an end to any
speculation that Alfredo Morelos could rejoin the team.
Short-lived talk of Rangers’ return
Even though Alfredo Morelos will play for Santos in the upcoming campaign, the Rangers still have a lot of affection
for the Colombian striker.
Even though the forward’s Ibrox career did not go as well as it could have, Morelos still leaves a legacy at the team.
Morelos finished as the Rangers’ all-time European leading goalscorer with 29 strikes. In 269 appearances with the
team, he scored 124 goals.
In 2017, Morelos signed with HJK Helsinki, managed by Pedro Caixinha, for an alleged £1 million after Jonatan
Johansson suggested him.
