Draymond Green: Commissioner discouraged retirement

In light of his most recent NBA

punishment, Commissioner Adam Silver

dissuaded Draymond Green from

declaring retirement from the NBA, the

seasoned forward for the Golden State

Warriors stated on his podcast. After

receiving an indefinite suspension for

hitting Phoenix Suns player Jusuf Nurkic

in the face on December 12, Green had a

conversation with Silver, according to

ESPN, which examined “The Draymond

Green Show” before of its Monday release.

“I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for

me. … This is too much,” Green said, per

the report. “It’s all becoming too much

for me — and I’m going to retire.’ And

Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash

decision and I won’t let you do that.’

“I found our lengthy, wonderful talk to be

really beneficial. I’m grateful to be a

member of a league where Adam, the

commissioner, is more interested in

assisting you than inflicting harm or

punishing you. He is more focused on the

players. Green missed 12 games during

his ban, but the NBA reinstated him on

Saturday. He had insisted that Nurkic’s

dismissal was the result of an

unintentional arm swing that struck him in the face.

Green “completed steps that

demonstrated his commitment to

conforming his conduct to standards

expected of NBA players,” the league

stated in a statement. In addition to

consulting with a counselor, he has also

jointly met with representatives of the

National Basketball Players Association,

the NBA, and the Warriors on several

occasions. These discussions are

expected to continue throughout the season.”

In 15 games this season, Green has

averaged 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.8

assists. He is in his 12th season with

Golden State and has won four NBA titles

with the Warriors. He’s also a four-time

All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection.
