Rangers to sign ‘creative’ playmaker amid Todd Cantwell rumours at Ibrox

Given the uncertainty surrounding Todd Cantwell’s future at Ibrox, Kenny Miller feels that Rangers should buy a creative midfield player during the January transfer window.

Since moving from Norwich Cityhttps://dailysportnews.co.uk to Rangers in January 2023, the 25-year-old’s career has been somewhat unpredictable.

Many had expected more of him, particularly in terms of goal contributions.Even if Dujon Sterling is playing well in midfield, it is clear that the Gers need a “creative” player,

and Miller has advised Philippe Clement to look for a playmaker this month.

“A lot of rumors are circulating right now regarding Todd Cantwell as a creative midfielder. Happy in Glasgow, is he? We’re not positive,” the Sky Sports analyst wrote on Sunday, January 7, for Daily Record.

“What is certain is that he hasn’t demonstrated the same level of form as he had at the conclusion of the previous semester. He needs to give Clement more.

“I commend Dujon Sterling for his outstanding performance there. However, he isn’t the imaginative kind or someone who could win a title contest. I believe the manager will try to improve that region of the pitch because of this.

Miller is accurate. To put it mildly, Cantwell’s efforts this season have been dismal. In addition to his six goals and five assists from the previous season, he has recorded three goals and four assists in 25 appearances.

In addition to winning the Viaplay Scottish League Cup, Rangers defeated Real Betis in a thrilling match to take first place in Group C of the Europa League and advance to the knockout stages.

But Clement’s team still had shortcomings, as the Gers’ defeat to Celtic at the end of December demonstrated

. Rangers are currently eight points behind the leaders of the Scottish Premiership; Cantwell’s failure to step up at such a critical juncture needs to be addressed.

Rangers’ success in the ongoing season will be largely dependent on the creative midfielder they add in January. Kemar Roofe and Danilo’s injuries, Cyriel Dessers’ patchy play,

and Abdallah Sima’s absence due to international service at the 2023 African Cup of Nations have left Clement in dire need of an additional attacker.

With the 25-year-old midfielder struggling to make an impact at Ibrox, it wouldn’t be a major surprise if Cantwell left in January, nor would it be a huge loss.
